How much do removalists cost?

Moving house can be a stressful time, which makes it all the more important to choose the right removalists. Some movers tack on a lot of hidden costs when it’s time to pay the bill. This article runs through some of the extras your removalist may include free of charge, or at an extra cost, so that you can know what to expect when receiving a quote.

It can be tough to know if you’re hiring the right removalists, but here are a few factors affecting pricing that can help you to make an educated selection:

  • Insurance

First and foremost, be sure to check that your removalist is insured! In the event that damage does occur to one of your items, you want to make sure that your items will be protected. No removalist should be charging extra to insure your items during your move. If you are speaking to a removalist who is charging you for use of their insurance… Run. We provide public liability and goods in transit insurance at no cost to you.

  • Stairs

Confirm with your removalists whether you will be charged extra for stairs. Most removalists charge an extra fee per flight of stairs. Lindo Removals has a strong team of movers who are willing to put in that extra effort free of charge and with extra enthusiasm. All our furniture removalist jobs include stairs free of charge.

  • Packing

If you require packing services, this is usually charged per box packed and per cardboard box required. This is a standard method of charging for packing and most removalists add this cost on top of the price for your move. It is worth the additional cost for packing if you are short on time or high on stress. Our packers are efficient and packing prices are often negotiable.

  • Minimum job time

It is important to ask your removalists if they have a minimum job time. Sometimes, you only need a few items moved, perhaps up or down the stairs or just down the road. Most removalists have a minimum job time of 2-3 hours. This means, even if your job takes 45 minutes, you’ll be charged the minimum job time. For jobs where you only need several items moved, you need removalist services like our small job removalists, which have no minimum job time.

  • Travel time/Call out fee

Most removalists charge a call out fee or travel time to cover the cost of the time spent by workers in the truck and fuel costs. This is usually charged as a percentage of the hourly rate, depending on how far your job is from the truck’s base. It is important that your removalists are up front with you about the inclusion of a call out fee. You should be sure to confirm the call out fee applicable to your job to ensure you are not surprised by extra costs when you go to pay. At Lindo Removals, we make sure you are aware and agreeable to the travel time applicable to your job from the outset, and include it in your booking confirmation so that you have a record.

Lindo Removals wishes you all the best with your move.
